Journalist Visa

Journalist Visa issued to who have been approved by the Ministry of Information.

Document Required for Journalist Visa

  • One completed Business/ Entry Visa application form.
  • Original Visa request letter from the News Agency mentioning the purpose of entry to Myanmar. (Photocopy is not accept)
  • One Completed biography with photo.
  • Lists of Technical Equipments.
  • Air Ticket (round trip) copy or Ticket reservation document
  • Original Photograph of applicant taken recently, to be pasted on Visa Application form.
    • The photograph must have been taken within the last six months
    • Photo Size: the photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure: 35mmx45mm
    • The photograph should be in color and must be taken against a white or off-white background.
    • The photograph should be in color and must be taken with white background. The photograph for each visa applicant must be a full face photo directly facing towards the camera without glasses or hat. Side or angled views are NOT accepted.
    • Photocopied photographs are NOT accepted.
  • Passport of at least 6 months validity with available pages.
  • Please ensure that completed address and contact phone number or mobile number is included in your application.

Those who use any false statements will be refused an entry visa. The Embassy does not have to explain the reason of rejection.

Regulations for Photographers Using Professional Film/Video Cameras and Still Cameras for Filming/Shooting at Cultural Sites in Myanmar

A cash deposit for filming/shooting is necessary. The rates are:

  • Kyat 500,000/–for a continuous shooting period up to 12 hours (Approx: USD1=Kyat 1300)
  • Kyat 50,000/–for every extra one hour.

Cash deposit of Kyat 100,000/- for one day.

  1. The photographers/shooting crew will have to be accompanied by two respective government supervisors/officials and the following cost for them will have to be borne by the photographers/ shooting crew:

For one government official accompanying the shooting crew: Kyat 10,000/–

  1. The shooting process will be allowed to start only after all the cash payments have been fully paid.
  2. The photographers/film shooting crew must submit the subject matters and locations of shooting areas in advance to the respective Department if they do not have a prior permission from the respective government Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw.
  3. It is prohibited for shooting to go up to any restricted pagoda in the cultural sites.
  4. It is prohibited for shooting inside the restricted pagoda which has mural painting inside and using flash is strictly restricted.
  5. During the shooting process, it is necessary to carefully perform the shooting process without having damaging effect to the ancient pagodas and stupas.
  6. No shooting is allowed inside any museums or exhibition sites.
  7. The shooting crew/photographers must take responsibility to clean up the area after shooting. (i.e. cleaning up cigarette butts, cigarette ash, beer/ juice bottles, water bottles, trash left over by the shooting crew)
  8. The shooting process must NOT deter or obstruct the public area (i.e. routes/paths of the visitors to the sites).
  9. During the shooting period, any activity which is not in line with Myanmar culture, religion, tradition and it could harm the morality and culture is strictly prohibited. (i.e. It is prohibited for dancing, singing, behavior which damaging Myanmar culture, wearing indecent clothes)
  10. It is strictly prohibited any action which will directly or indirectly damage the importance and value of ancient buildings, pagodas, etc. situated inside the cultural heritage areas.
  11. If any damage occurs to ancient building/pagoda, full maintenance cost has to be paid by the shooting team/ photographers to the respective bank account accordingly.
  12. The shooting process must be only for the permitted film plots and only for the permitted shooting locations. It must neither be connected to advertisements nor other projects. It is revealed, the fine, which is double in amount of the originally levied amount for shooting, will be collected.
  13. The shooting is only for the permitted purpose and no other projects such as advertisements/plots of film are allowed during the process. If it is found, it will be fined with double charges.
  14. While shooting inside the area of cultural sites, it is strictly prohibited such shooting/filming which are inappropriate and not in conformity with Myanmar culture. It is not allowed such shooting inside or outside of ancient Buddhist religious buildings/ structures.
  15. The photographers/ shooting crew must sign affirmation to respectfully follow if departmental staff members or responsible personnel or local people come up and object/ ban the shooting/filming due to inappropriate behaviour or film plot.
  16. If the photographers/ shooting crew are found violated any of the above-mentioned regulations, relevant fine, which starts from Kyat 50,000, has to be paid and the volume of fine will be based on the points raised by the Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum, Ministry of Culture.
  17. Most importantly, it is necessary for the photographers/shooting crew to sign that they will follow regulations of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum.
  18. If they do not abide by the regulations, action will be taken against them according to the rules and regulations and the films/advertisement that they are plan to shoot will be banned.
  19. For usage of drone, application for temporary Admission has to be submitted in advance. If the drone will be carried along with them, they have to sign an Affirmation that they will take it back on their departure.
  20. It is necessary to submit the film story/plot/ scripts, list of materials/cameras, list of the shooting crew members, list of the locations and dates prior to the travel for approval.
